I had these for a few years and they served me well. They weren't the top of the class, but they packed great and took up little to no space. It was sad when I trashed them because they were like the coolest little compact speakers and I always felt like James Bond when I unpacked them.
These speakers are better than the internal speaker in my computer, by a longshot, but I am disappointed that an AC Adapter did not come with it, runs on AAA batteries, the cord between the speakers is too short, and the speakers periodically (often) have noise (apparently very cheap wires that pick up any small bit of interference). However, they are help in my office where the internal laptop speaker was not sufficient.
They sound like cheap car speakers. (NOTE: the USB cable for the SI-5 is sold separately. However, I teach classes and like to start the day with some music, and these speakers are perfect for quiet background music from my PC. Sonic Impact Technologies Gen2 is basically the same speaker but it comes with a USB cable). The sound from these speakers is mediocre at best: lots of midrange, very little bass. If your music software has an EQ, increase the volume on your PC to the max, keep the speaker volume at 5, boost the bass EQ a little, cut the mid EQ a lot, and boost the treble EQ a lot. They'll sound ok at low volume, and they're so small and light won't even notice you have them in your luggage.
its not the best sound when you turn it up all the way but otherwise its wicked good. the sound it pretty good if you keep it at a resonable level. if you just want something to play your cd or mp3 player outloud this is the thing to get, it's cheap and has great quality
after reading the excellent reviews, i was very disappointed with the sound quality from these speakers. if you plan on playing them even slightly loud the distortion is incredible
